ACA Open Enrollment Period Begins Amid Concerns About Cost, Options.
The Wall Street Journal (11/1, Armour, Radnofsky, Subscription Publication) reports that the Affordable Care Act’s fourth open enrollment period began on Tuesday, and the Obama Administration is hoping that more consumers will sign up for coverage, thus helping to shore up ACA exchanges. The Administration aims to increase the number of new members, and it is also encouraging those whose plans are no longer being offered to seek new policies. HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell said on Tuesday, “This year, the vast majority of consumers will qualify for tax credits that help keep coverage affordable, and it’s easier than ever to shop around and compare options. … As we sound today’s opening bell, let’s also take stock of the historic gains in coverage we’ve made as a country, and work together to continue that progress.”
