Several Large Insurers No Longer Paying Brokers To Help Consumers Enroll In ACA Plans.

Kaiser Health News (11/1/16) reports that as the fourth Affordable Care Act open enrollment period gets underway, “some health insurance brokers are already fielding questions about coverage and whether existing plans will still be available next year.” Meanwhile, some insurers, including Cigna, Aetna and UnitedHealth, are no longer paying brokers for helping consumers enroll in ACA plans. Marcy Buckner, a vice president at the National Association of Health Underwriters, warned, “If brokers cut back their client lists as a result of the reimbursement changes, that could result in ‘lower enrollment for the exchanges, which really hurts everyone.’”
